Le Conte d' Arthur

For like a moonbeam straight and sure
across the thundering tide
Like the lightning quick and fierce
did the Gallant ride
To wed the maid upon the morrow
to take her for his bride
To marry Lady Guenevere
did King Arthur ride

For like all love there burned a love
a love that's not to be
For this love was of unfaithfulness
and soon to hang by tree
For Arthur could not save his love
this maid without a thought
For she loved, and only loved
the traitor Lancelot

Arthur could not fight this sin
nor raise a loving arm
For by this love, this epic love
his kingdom came to harm
Yes by this love, this bastard love
this love seen by the stars
The kingdom crumbled rock and stone
by love and iron bars

Though Lancelot rode to save his love
and Arthur prayed success
The villain Mordred marched to war
for Arthur he would best
He now held Arthur's kingdom
within his iron hand
And though he waited for Lancelot
the King would make a stand

"Pray tell don't go," his servants cried
"for you will ride to doom
Lancelot comes with surest stride
he rides to seek his boon"
But Arthur cried,"Nay nay I'll go
tis I that calls the shots
Mordred will by my hand fall
mine not Lancelot's"

King Arthur rode to fight that day
all gold and fiery flame
Mordred would on that day pay
like plague and wind he came
His flags were decked with bones and gore
a truly grisled art
He set out that day to become lore
But Arthur stabbed his heart

But Mordred's evil could not be stopped
his plan was not yet through
He lashed out with one frantic chop
and gave King his mortal wound
Though Mordred was now dead
Arthur was soon to die
And all because of fullest head
and hurt and vengeful pride

The King dripped precious rubies
Arthur was soon to go
The Civil King was fading fast
struck down by final blow
Excalibur was thrown into the water
for there was much at stake
And from it's glittering depths emerged
the Lady of the Lake

The King stepped into her waiting arms
and her maidens lay him down
A bed of clouds was were he sat
his blanket was her gown
The Lady escorted him into the mist
upon a raft of gold
The story traveled far and wide
and was forever told

Some say the King, he didn't die
and lives forever on
Some say he faded quick away
and is forever gone
The sad Kings life was filled with wrong
though he was filled with right
His tale still echoes like a song
though the eternal night

Yes I did. I have to say that this is a pretty accurate tale of King Arthur...though it does exclude some minor details.
I'd have to say that Arthur is still among us.
Personally I think he'll be up with the other Christian hero's at Jesus's side when the rapture comes.

Hey nice poem Saul. It's a pretty good retelling of Arthurs life. Got any more of those works of art in the making?
